Pervy Santa
So, yeah... "Pervy Santa." It's my contribution to "The War on Christmas!" My bone of contention isn't the Fox News/Bill O'Reilly version which is that the evil secularists are excising the "Baby Jesus" from the holiday season but rather the rank consumerism of the whole thing. I'm not even sure why the forever-outraged, unrelentingly "persecuted" christians would even want their religious nonsense attached to this six-week extravaganza of naked commercialism, but they do. Instead of howling about people being compelled to spend money they don't have, on items they don't need, the "War on Christmas" frauds want a patina of worship painted over the nightmarish proceedings. People being murdered in Wal*Mart over crap, people slipping deeper into debt, and people cluttering up their lives with more junk. Yeah, it's certainly that special "Jesus-time" of year.
I'm a bit of a curmudgeon about the whole ghastly spectacle, and there's something very disturbing about our national economy being so dependent on this orgy of unnecessary spending. Besides, my own birthday is December 27th, [I'll be 59 this year...] and it was for the obvious reason always something of an anti-climactic event.
Anyway, track down Richie Havens' "Standing on the Water" and give it a listen. I had heard that song and then went somewhere that had "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" playing. For whatever reason, the lyrics, "You'd better not shout, you'd better not cry..." stuck in my head and inspired this vision of Santa. The outer border is gold and probably won't show up in the scan, but it looks appropriate to the spirit of "giving." I considered a number of titles including the aforementioned lyrics, but it just compounded the creep factor too drastically. So remember... he knows when you are sleeping!! Hahaha!!!
