"As was often the case when I had
to illustrate more than one fiction submission for the same issue
of a magazine, I was required to alter my basic style for one of
them. That's why every once in a while something crops up that
doesn't bear the hallmarks of my preferred technique. I already
had a set of drawings going into this mag so when they sent me an
emergency 're-do' (the original artist had either bailed
completely or submitted something unusable), I decided to get the
essence of speed and starkness that complimented the writing style
and the theme of the story."
